“Yo, yo, yooooo,” I said, as I entered Amber’s room without warning her that I was coming over beforehand.

She didn’t say anything at first until I dropped down beside her with a smile on my face that wasn’t returned.

“What the hell is wrong with you girl? Get your ass off my bed, and out of my room,” she said, as she closed her eyes again.

“Never.” I dropped a bag of donuts next to her head and she turned into them and inhaled deeply.

“You’re lucky I know there is at least one filled with lemon in there otherwise I tell you what, you were about to be tossed out on your pale behind.” She sat up and dug around the bag until she found what she was looking for.

“You’re welcome,” I said, as I grabbed myself a chocolate donut and climbed inside the covers. “So, what were you guys fighting about?”

She sighed and finished chewing before she said, “How did I know you were going to ask me that first thing after forcibly waking me up.”

“Isn’t it always with force that we are awoken by another?” I countered in my best philosopher voice.

“Don’t hand me that poetic crap so early in the morning, I don’t need to ponder what it means to be woken up by someone.”

I smiled innocently. “It’s one thirty pm Ambear.”

“Don’t be cute with me, you can’t call me ‘Ambear’ when you are being annoying. It's Amber, thanks,” she said.

When I didn’t say anything but instead pleaded with her with my eyes, she sat up with another sigh. “Shit, alright. We fought because well…” She stopped suddenly and I watched her eyes fill with water and a single tear slip out. “You ready for this?” she asked, and I nodded slowly as worry for her set in. “He cheated on me okay. Jake, that stupid ass bitch, he cheated on me.”

I inhaled in shock and started choking on my donut, so she slapped my back as she rolled her eyes and reached for a glass of water on her nightstand with her other hand.

“What the hell, why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, before I cleared my throat a few more times and took a big gulp of water.

I was shocked, if it wasn’t Amber saying so herself, I would never believe Jake would do something like that.

“I was so embarrassed,” she said, and tears began to glide down her cheeks more rapidly from her downcast eyes. “And I feel weird about it, I have conflicting emotions about us being over.”

“Oh, honey why? You should have come to me right away, I’m so sorry. I understand it probably is confusing. But why would you be embarrassed to tell me?”

“Because of whom it was with, because I told him I’d still be with him because I don’t know how to be with anyone else. But he turned me down. I feel really stupid Ky. Like really, really, fucking stupid.”

I set the bag on the floor and scooted closer to her so I could hug her.
